Christmas at Wire Park delivered holiday cheer for community

The first Christmas at Wire Park was a resounding success, offering holiday music and festive cheer for hundreds of area residents on Dec. 12. Sponsored by our friends at BOE Classic Lending, Wire Park offered a Christmas concert from The Athens A-Train Band who shared a wide range of beloved classics to jazzy tunes for those in attendance.

A visit from Santa Claus, as well as s’mores over a bonfire, ensured everyone was in the holiday spirit. Food trucks made sure concert-goers had plenty to eat, and Java Joy brought smiles to everyone’s faces while also raising money for Extra Special People.

“One of the visions we have for Wire Park is for it to be a place where the community can come together in fellowship, and that’s what we saw at Christmas at Wire Park,” said Duke Gibbs, CEO of Gibbs Capital. “We’re so grateful for the community coming out to support us. After a year where we’ve had to be apart to protect those we care for, the prospect of a better year is right around the corner, and this opportunity to gather together was a wonderful example of what’s to come at Wire Park in 2021.”

Christmas at Wire Park was the first time the Oconee County community was able to gather together at the former home of Southwire, a longtime community anchor near the intersection of Barnett Shoals Road, Greensboro Highway and South Main Street in Watkinsville. Gibbs Capital is leading work on revitalizing the property to transform it into a comprehensive mixed-use project that spans more than 40 acres and will feature a blend of residential, retail and office space.

Wire Park is slated to host its grand opening in the fall of 2021 with regular concerts and events planned for the community to enjoy.
