Christmas at Wire Park returns for 2021

Christmas at Wire Park, a community concert celebrating the holiday season, will return this year on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the site of the Wire Park mixed-use development.

Sponsored by The Yard at Wire Park, Barnett Southern, Budget Blinds and Inspired Closets, and BOE Mortgage, this family-friendly Christmas concert is free and open to the public. The Athens A-Train Band, a local six-piece jazz ensemble that specializes in jazz and swing music, will take the stage at 5:00 p.m. to perform a collection of beloved holiday selections.

Christmas at Wire Park also will feature a collection of food trucks, such as Chick-fil-A, Tanner Hill BBQ, and more. Additionally, Java Joy, the popular cart benefitting Extra Special People, will be serving up hot chocolate for guests.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and chairs to enjoy an evening of holiday music, and a firepit will be set up in the commons area to let families roast s’mores. Santa Claus will be on hand for complementary, professional photos with children and families with Blume Photography.

“Last year, Christmas at Wire Park offered an opportunity for the community to safely come together, and the popularity of that event cemented our desire to make it a holiday tradition for Oconee County,” said Duke Gibbs, president of Gibbs Capital. “As we move closer to opening Wire Park for the community to enjoy, this will serve as a glimpse into the types of family-friendly activities and events that will be a regular part of its daily experience. I hope everyone makes plans to celebrate the holidays with us in December.”

Wire Park is located at the former home of Southwire, a longtime community anchor near the intersection of Barnett Shoals Road, Greensboro Highway and South Main Street in Watkinsville. Gibbs Capital is leading work on revitalizing the property to transform it into a comprehensive mixed-use project that spans more than 60 acres and will feature a blend of residential, retail, restaurant and office space.

Wire Park encourages the voluntary use of CDC-approved safety guidelines for COVID-19, including social distancing and mask wearing.
